Ok even though it is painful to say, Cranky Man is right. Atonement is better than JUNO (but still see JUNO)
So basically Atonement is going to win picture of the year...well maybe not at the Golden Globes, because those are likely not to happen and this devestates me.
Lets see Atonement where to begin....But you might not want to continue reading if you haven't seen the film.
-Well it has really neat flashbacks and I am a sucker for any film with flashbacks.
-The sounds of the typewriter and lighter were incredibly creepy and awesome.
-Some of the camera shots were amazingly cool, most of them were on Briony...but the best one came at the end and it was of the dead Cecilia, Mo really loved this one. Oh and the one of the family on the steps outside as they see Robby return home with the twins, LOVE THAT ONE
-Kiera Knightly did not bug me at all, which is remarkable.
-The actor who played Robby did a fine job and he is quite good-looking.
-The actresses who played younger Biony and adult Biony were wonderful, she continued to stay creepy and awkward throughout the entire movie.
-The scene when the soldiers were rushed in was graphic, but real and I loved it, even if I had to close my eyes.
-I also loved the scene showing the soldiers camped out on the abandoned amusment park. The scene was depressing, but quite lovely.
-I am still laughing about the incident with the letter.
-That is all, however it really needed a witty girl name Juno
Next Movie to see: Kite Runner ;-) But I am serious
Have a fabulous day

I loved the amusement scene too!! I liked how there was a person hanging from the ferris wheel at one point.. and the sound of the singing and the man screaming about coming home.. simply stunning.
there really was someone hanging? Because I couldn't tell if that was a person or npot
I am curious about your perceptions of the end of the film (and novel). Did you already know, while watching, that those events never happened--or were you surprised, as i was when i read it, that much of the action was artificial? I LOVE the ending, though.
There is a great review of "Juno" on Slate. Check it.
I didn't know those things never happened. I was just like, "Oh this movie isn't that sad, at least they end up together." But then the interview scene came on and I started crying.
It was embarrassing.
I know what you mean...when i first read the novel and realized that the characters never connected or reconciled i was shocked. But it does say something about the power of language. And Vanessa Redgrave plays that role so well as a regretful and (still, after so many years of success and happiness) torn. Here is the John Updike review of the novel form years ago:

The link didn't make it. Just look up "Updike Flesh on Flesh" and you'll find it. Cool stuff. Did AW tell you about the band Film School? You might like...
Yeah, she told me, I didn't know it was band until a few days ago though. Haha, I thought you were making fun of us.
I was surprised as well, but even though the ending was extremely sad, I still loved it. The definitely felt the interview mad the fil, although I feel as if many people are going to disagree with me here. I aslp agree that Vanessa Redgrave does an outstanding job.
OMR-do you have a copy of the novel? Oh and have you seen No Country For Old Men Yet?
The review is really good. I can't wait to read the novel, and I also want to read Cement Garden.
Sick Hipster Nursed by a Suicide Girl is probably the best song title ever. And Film School is a wicked good band.
LC, I agree that the interview made the movie. It made me shake and I loved it.
WOW I just read my previous comment... ummm sorry
